Ruby Gill

After decades spent silencing the South African forests in which she was raised, Ruby Gill hummingbirded over the Indian Ocean to hum about violence, joy, privilege and border security to a tolerant Melbourne population. Almost immediately, her piercing lyrics, grumpy guitar, classically-trained piano-hands and disproportionately massive voice left audiences across the country transfixed.

After a sold-out national tour of South Africa, Ruby's debut single “Your Mum” left exceptionally large potholes in both the industry and kitchen in 2018. Outside the studio, her scary and silencing stage presence has festivals like Oppikoppi and Woodford Folk Festival to her name.
